Thomas Patrick Pringle is a media theorist drawing on documentary studies, environmental sociology, and environmental and computer history. He is working on two projects at SIFK. The first is “The Climate Proxy,” a book manuscript about how regionally defined digital cultures understand global warming crises through disparate and vernacular media documentation, a prismatic representational process that reflects the histories of social inequality that shape environmental risk. The second is a history of cybernetics and computers in developmental environmentalist organizations in the 1970s and 1980s, with attention to how this history prefaces the postcolonial digitization of agriculture. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University.
